Roasted Garlic on the Grill ~ Why buy roasted garlic when it’s so easy to roast it yourself!
We love roasted garlic and use it frequently in many of our favorite recipes both on and off the grill. This past Father’s Day I was lucky enough to receive a cast iron garlic roaster! For someone who loves cast iron and loves grilling with garlic – I’m not sure why I had not bought one for myself a decade ago! Can’t wait to make my Garlic Chicken dish again using my own roasted garlic!
Easy (like all Weekend Grilling recipes) recipe:
It can’t get much easier than this. Load up the garlic roaster with one large, or two medium heads of garlic. Next, cut the top off of each head. Finally, drizzle olive oil over the garlic heads to coat them well. Leave the excess olive oil in the bottom of the roaster and place on a hot grill for about a half hour or so. On this particular night I was at 400° and left the garlic roaster on for just over 30 minutes.
Cut the tops off each head.
Fits two medium or one large head of garlic.
We used regular EVOO, but I’m already planning on using some flavor-infused olive oils next time, as well as adding some of my Weekend Rub and / or sliced jalapeno peppers to add some additional flavor to the roasted garlic. Use your imagination and make it your own!
We keep our roasted garlic in an air tight jar which will keep it fresh for perhaps up to a week – but once you roast it and bring it in the house it probably won’t be around for too long!
In the past we have roasted garlic by simply doing the same method described above in the oven and using aluminum foil. This cast iron garlic roaster seems to roast the entire head resulting in more flavor. There is much more of a smoke flavor and parts of the head actually get a little brown. That, and it’s cool looking right? I could see one of these roasters being used for something crazy in Game of Thrones!
Give it a try! They are inexpensive and being cast iron they will therefore last a lifetime! Click below and pick one up – you will simply love it!
A great Father’s Day gift to say the least, my kids must have read my Father’s Day 2016 post I wrote a few weeks ago as I also received a gift certificate from my favorite local butcher shop Bucky’s! LOVE my kids!
