A few weeks back I smoked six pork shoulders for a Customer Appreciation party for a local company. I thought this would be a great opportunity to try out a new set of Meat Claws that I purchased through AMAZON earlier – Feel free to check them out HERE. They are known as Bear Claws, BBQ Claws or Shredding Claws, regardless of what you call them they are a great tool to have for grilling or smoking!
In the past I have simply used two regular forks and had little trouble shredding the pork butts, but with six of them I thought I would put these Meat Claws to the test. The results were excellent, they really did make simple work out of shredding over 50 pounds of pork quickly with very little effort.
They are quality made to say the least. They also come well packaged in a reusable box.
The directions are simple, as printed on the back of the box seen here!
These claws from Ankway are made out of a heavy gauge plastic that easily handled not only the shredding of the pork, but the lifting of the pork shoulders and transferring them back and forth off the smoker grate.
I followed my Pork Shoulder Recipe which calls for transferring the shoulders a number of times. These Meat Claws made that a simple task. While I have used other Meat Claws in the past for shredding I never used them to transfer any meat to or from the grill. These Meat Claws worked very well for that too! I have used those heavy rubber orange gloves which while they also work nice can be a pain to get on and especially take off. With the Meat Claws, you just grab the meat with each claw and lift. No mess and no wasted time putting rubber gloves on or taking them off. If you do use those heavy orange or black gloves I’ve found it’s much easier if you use some paper towel on the glove while pulling it off, much less slippery.
If you are looking for a good quality set of Meat Claws, give Ankway’s a try – I highly recommend them!
