Over the years, I have developed Weekend Rub – a dry rub that works with just about everything. Easily my go-to rub for pork, chicken, beef and even veggies! I developed this mainly for when I smoke pork spare or baby-back ribs and pork shoulder for pulled pork sandwiches/wraps. I have found, however, that it’s pretty darn good on just about everything.
My rub, like many of the recipes you will see on this website is straight-forward and made of spices that you already probably have in that over-crowded spice cabinet in your kitchen. I don’t do BBQ competitions, so I don’t need to trick your taste buds into thinking wow, this is the best ever – for the first bite or two that is. Those who do BBQ competitions probably know what I’m talking about. Rather, I developed this rub to be a tasty sensation that lasts as long as the meat lasts regardless if it’s right off the grill or smoker, or has been refrigerated for a few days, and you are finally finishing up the leftovers.
It may be a little spicy for some, but that’s one of the great things about this dry rub; it’s so versatile. You can easily change-up the ingredients to make it have as much kick or as little as you like. Once purchased I will be more than happy to help you tweak the recipe as I have tried dozens and dozens of variations of this recipe over the years. This recipe makes a good amount of rub, if you are like me, I like to make plenty ahead of time and keep it in air-tight container and then pull it out when needed. I usually make a mess of the kitchen, for some reason, so the wife likes it that I don’t have to make the rub every time I smoke or grill something. It can be kept in any air-tight container, frozen if you like, or just in the kitchen cabinet – if you have the space. You can easily cut the portion size in half if you like, or double it of course! It only takes 10 minutes with these 10 ingredients for Weekend Rub!
